Gardening machinery: the market is recovering

The third quarter of 2020 closes with + 19% in overall sales compared to the same period in 2019. The growth in the period July-September compensates for the collapse recorded in the first part of the year, and allows to contain the liabilities of the first nine months at -0.7%. For market operators and fans of the sector, Eima Digital Preview is coming.
2020 was for Italians the year of the rediscovery of green spaces: gardens, terraces and balconies have become an increasingly popular place during the months of the lockdown. Interest in gardening has increased and related purchases have grown with it. A recent survey reveals that many Italians would like to move houses after quarantine, and more than half of them (58%) would like to have their garden. The rediscovery of greenery and gardening activities seems to have positive effects on the market for specific machines and equipment.
The survey on the sales trend carried out by Comagarden, the manufacturers' association belonging to FederUnacoma, shows a net increase in the third half of 2020 compared to the same period of 2019, with an overall + 19.2%, which follows the another positive figure (+ 13.3%) which was recorded in the second quarter.
The survey takes into consideration different types of machines for green maintenance.
Among those most commonly used, lawn mowers (+ 20%), brushcutters (+ 39.7%) and trimmers (+ 49.8%) showed a clear increase in the third quarter. The strong increases in this third fraction of the year compensate for the collapse that occurred in the first quarter due to the block in production and sales (-23%), so that in the total balance of the nine months the liabilities are reduced to -0 , 7% average, with more pronounced negative percentages for some types of vehicles such as lawn mowers (-7.7%) and brushcutters (-1.9%), while chainsaws remain in positive territory with a slight increase (0, 8%).
The market for robotic lawnmowers (+ 5.2%) keeps in the balance for the nine months, and there is a real boom (+ 78%) for sprayers and sprayers, against their use also for the sanitation of environments.
The resumption of sales creates a favorable climate for the first edition of Eima Digital Preview - from 11 to 15 November - the virtual reality platform created specifically for agricultural mechanics, which includes a specific session for gardening and care. of the green, and which allows the public and operators to know the product ranges and novelties, and to contact the manufacturers via videoconference.
