It was expected yesterday, November 9, for a decision by the Member States on the renewal of the glyphosate authorization. However, an agreement has not been reached: now you look at the end of the month.
The EU Member States voted on the proposal by the European Commission to renew the glyphosate authorization for another five years (the herbicide license expires at the end of December 2017). In favor 14 countries were deployed, 9 against the contrary (including Italy) and 5 abstained (including Germany).
The Commission will now bring the matter to the appeal committee, which should meet on 27 or 28 November. What will happen if even then will there be an agreement on the thorny issue? The procedure provides for the renewal proposal to be adopted at this point even without the country's ok.
